The latest Android OS update, Jellybean 4.1 has been leaked and ported onto a Samsung Galaxy SIII as reported at XDA-Developers.com!
The XDA Recognized Developer Faryaab who is located in the UK (check his Twitter account out @Faryaab), has managed to get Jellybean compatible and working with an International Samsung Galaxy SIII / i9300. Not bad for a 15 year old! Geez.. I can’t even remember what I was doing at 15 years of age, but it sure as hell wasn’t cracking the latest Nokia Symbian software.
This is exciting news though. We can now understand what Google’s intentions will be for Jellybean on a wider scale and also what they’ve been up to in their collaborations with Samsung on their Nexus phone.
Regardless… all the latest Jellybean releases are ports based from the leaked Jellybean 4.1 OS from the Galaxy Nexus, meaning they are modified for us with a Samsung Galaxy SIII so this isn’t the official release… in fact it isn’t even the official unofficial leak! You have been warned that this isn’t a 100% true compatible release as the stats will show you below.
Some capabilities just don’t work on your phone with this ported leak but what does work includes….
Touchscreen
Hardware acceleration (needed for resource intensive programs and scenarios)
LED
Cellular Radio transmission and reception
Physical Button input
Short Message Service
Accelerometer (the part that allows your phone to understand what direction it is being handled)
Battery Charger
What doesn’t work though are the…
Bluetooth
NFC
Audio (No Sound)
Camera
MTP
Storage Capabilities.
You can find the release for this port here – but a strong warning! Do not update your phone if you don’t know what you are doing.
Instructions can be found at the original thread here.
